studiœncore brings back your favourite sneaker for an encore
The fashion industry has a significant impact on the environment, with an estimated 2.1 billion tonnes of CO₂ emitted into the atmosphere every year. To put this in perspective, the amount of pollution caused by the fashion industry is equivalent to the emissions produced by 456,707,817 cars annually.
The problem is compounded by the sheer number of shoes that are sold each year. Over 25 billion shoes are sold annually, and many of them end up in landfills where they take between 30 and 40 years to decompose.
Sneaker production is particularly carbon-intensive, accounting for 1.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This is significant given that air travel is responsible for 2.5% of all emissions.
Even something as seemingly innocuous as a pair of running shoes contributes to this problem. The production of an average running shoe emits around 13 kg of CO₂, which is roughly equivalent to leaving a 100-watt light bulb on for one week.
For 20 years Florence was part of the problem: designing sneakers from behind her computer, travelling the world in search of the next big idea but also to factories and trade shows. In 2022 Florence had her very own light bulb moment: She decided that this had to stop and thought about how to create something meaningful combining her experience and passion for sneakers & design. She learnt how to make and repair sneakers using her hands.
This is how studiœncore was born.
We collect old and worn sneakers, remove the sole (as yes many intact sneakers end up in landfill when the sole is crumbling or worn out) and replace it with a welt and a brand new vibram sole. The colour and shape of the welt vary making every shoe unique. This is where Florence's creativity come into play.
Prices start at 29€ for cleaning / 69€ for dying / 449€ for a new sole
